The Crack Shack is located in downtown San Diego right next to Juniper & Ivy. Parking can be a little tough depending when you decide to go, but they do offer valet parking. This “outdoor coop” is definitely a unique representation of an outdoor restaurant. As a Canadian, we don’t see very much of these types of places nor do we allow pets in a food place. It didn’t really occur to me why this eatery was designed the way it was until I looked a little further into the background of The Crack Shack.
Chicken served are always fresh!
One of the things I admire about this little eatery was the simple fact that they use free ranged chickens who are all fed natural grains. They also support local farmers by using only their produce and local craft beers for drinks. All the chickens come in fresh, never frozen.
The Crack Shack is set up as a fast counter style with a great menu selection of eggs, chicken, salad, fries and more. On top of the amazing food selection, the bar (which is literally 1 min away from where you decide to sit) they also serve craft cocktails, wine and local beer.
Food & drinks are amazing!
I had a tough time trying to figure out what to order. Although the burgers sounded amazing, I ended up with Chicken Lollipops and Mexican Fries. I’m very particular with my fries too! They have to be perfect –or at least close to perfect for me to enjoy them. These fries were heavenly.
The Outdoor Coop provides a fun & relaxed enviornment.
The layout was set up as an “outdoor coop” where the tables and chairs is pretty much a free for all. Very casual atmosphere and you can see airplanes flying overhead. They also had a court to play Bocce Ball. I personally never knew what Bocce Ball was nor did I know how to play it until I came here. Bocce Ball is a strategic game that emerged from ancient Egypt. You pretty much have to get as many of your bigger balls (also known as Bocce) as close to the small balls as possible. Kinda reminds me of Curling.
I promise you won’t be disappointed
With a huge chicken statue centring the middle of this “coop“, you can’t help but notice this sport when you’re in the area. So whenever you’re in downtown, San Diego and your looking to feast on some good fried chicken, I would highly recommend going to The Crack Shack.
If you don’t feel like driving or looking for parking, The Crack Shack also offers pick up and delivery. Check out their website at The Crack Shack.
