When life gets on top of us, everyone has a different coping mechanism. Some of us grit our teeth and stick it out at much emotional expense – some of us vent to our loved ones when times are hard. Stress is something that plagues nearly everyone from time to time, although its severity does vary.
If your job or personal life has gotten a little fraught of late, taking a vacation might be beneficial for you. Although it is never advisable to ‘run away from your problems’, taking a vacation can help you to relax and to re-align your mind – if you are concerned that your stress is half created in your own mind.
Taking some time out to clear your mind can never be a bad thing, and thankfully, there are some amazing places in the United States where you can do just that!
The Great Smoky Mountains
Need somewhere secluded and rural to recharge your batteries in? Look no further than the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.
This is one of the most visited National Parks in the whole of America, although it is so large it rarely feels overcrowded. It is situated on the border between Tennessee and North Carolina, and is renowned for its naturalistic diversity.
Visit in the springtime and admire the stunning wildflower pilgrimage, or choose a winter vacation where you can stay in Gatlinburg cabins. There’s nothing like fresh, mountain air to help revitalize your mind body and soul. Make use of the resort to get in some practice on the slopes, or stick to lower ground to enjoy one of the many great hiking routes around the park.
Lake Tahoe is one of the most famous sites in America, drawing people from all over the world to admire the natural beauty of its azure waters.
If you are looking for a soothing and calming backdrop, it doesn’t really get much better than this! Of course, industrialization has come to the area to a certain extent. You will find the influence of neighboring cities not too far from the lake itself, such as modern shopping outlets and malls.
But there are still plenty of awe-inspiring activities to take part in if this isn’t your kind of thing, such as gondola rides in the mountains or taking a hot air balloon to really take in all the sights.
On a more general note, getting away from it all on the island of Hawaii takes this to a whole new level. If you are willing to travel a little further to reach your place of serenity, Hawaii is a good bet for almost anyone.
It is blessed with a tropical climate so you can have all the blessings of the Bahamas without actually (technically) leaving the US. Take a trek through the rainforest and practice yoga in some of the most idyllic outdoor locations in the world.
You are sure to come home feeling like a whole new person, ready to take on anything!
