3 Ways To Make The World A Better Place And Travel

Lots of people like to travel the world to see new places and experience alternative cultures. However, most people just visit other countries and never make an impact. With that in mind, I’d like to make some suggestions today for the conscientious traveler.

If you want to help to make the world a better place, there are lots of ideas you might like to consider. I’ve listed my top three on this post in the hope of providing some inspiration.

You don’t have to choose any of the suggestions below, but I hope they will point you in the right direction. At the end of the day, you’ll have a better experience if you make good use of your time.

Volunteer with animals

There are lots of organizations that could help you to volunteer with animals abroad. You just need to perform some online research to find the best opportunities. Maybe you like the idea of contributing towards protecting gorillas in the Congo? Perhaps you’d like to put your efforts into assisting panda breeding programs in China?

Whatever your interests, you are sure to find a company that can facilitate your trip. In most situations, you will get to stay with local families during your time in the country.

That means you’ll get a real feel for their culture and how they live. You will make lots of pleasant memories and come away knowing you’ve made a difference.

Assist with building projects

Companies running construction projects in Africa and the Middle East are always on the lookout for labor. They need people who are willing to dedicate their time and effort towards achieving their goals.

In most situations, those programs are designed to bring shelter to people who can’t afford it. Helping to build new schools will also mean you play a significant role in ensuring the youth get an education.

With a bit of luck, that will mean they gain the knowledge required to improve their lives. Again, you just need to search online to find suitable opportunities for people like you.

Help out after natural disasters

Everyone feels sad when we see countries affected by natural disasters on the TV. The recent tsunami in Haiti is a prime example. People in the Philippines have also had a rough time during the last few years. Even so, most folks don’t realize they could travel to those nations and offer help.

You just need to find a charity that’s looking for volunteers from your country. You might spend your time assisting families to find their lost loved ones. You could also perform manual work like digging wells, and you might also transport food.

The possibilities are endless, and you just need to consider your goals. When all’s said and done, some people find themselves in terrible situations, and you could help to make their lives more bearable.

So, the next time you book a vacation, stop to think about how you could get the most from your experience. Sitting around on a beach all day long is relaxing, but it’s not a suitable use of your time. Check out GoEco for more information on opportunities from around the world.

You should always try to help others and remain conscientious when you visit other countries. If everyone did that, living conditions around the world would improve significantly. When I was in elementary school, I volunteered at an animal shelter and loved it. But it was also hard to see some of the animals go since I started to get so attached to them! Great suggestions Glenny!

This is so nice! There are so many bad things around the world but definately taking action in little things can really make a big difference. Specialy when helping animals. I have adopted two cats and I live them!

I try to incorporate these points even into where I am living. So important to help out in our world especially more so now than ever with what keeps happening around the world. Such great ideas you’ve mentioned her for when travelling, to be honest I never ever thought of that, but will take it into thought for when I next travel.

Great post Glenny! I agree that we all should do our part and assist others. Travel just doesn’t have to be purely recreational. We can all give back.

I love the idea of traveling with a purpose. I also tend to like experiences where I’m spending significant time in a foreign country doing something meaningful and getting to know people. That’s why I sought out teaching in Spain and also why I’m going to aupair with a family in the Czech Republic this summer.

Now this is a very informative post! I’ve always wanted to somehow volunteer in other countries, but never knew where to start. That GoEco link gives me a bit of push to do what I can as soon as I can, so thank you for sharing this with us!

This is such a great list. I’ve done a little of each except the second one. I’d love to give that a try sometime! x

I really love your writing, you are very good at it! These are all great suggestions to give back and to make a more meaningful impact. I recently volunteered with animals in Costa Rica and I loved it!
